What is a McGill Method Assessment?

Who is McGill

What makes this approach different from others you have tried?

Most back pain care focuses on passive treatments. I focus on assessing and understanding first, teaching you what you need to know to help yourself.

This unique assessment and coaching session takes 3-4 hours and provides you with:

An opportunity to tell your story

  • Thorough review of your entire history

  • Discussion of what you’ve tried that has worked and what hasn’t worked

  • Discussion of your goals, what matters most to you, what you want to get from the assessment

An understanding of what is driving your pain

  • Detailed posture and movement analysis

  • Identification of the movements, postures, and loads that aggravate your symptoms

  • Identification of the positions and strategies that help relieve them

Effective movement strategies for daily life

Core Stabilization Exercises to Help Build Control and Endurance

A clear, personalized plan for returning to activity

  • Understanding the most likely timeline for getting back to doing what you love

  • Understanding the principles behind how to make decisions about your activities

A Comprehensive Written Action Plan and Report

By the end of the assessment, you will have a much clearer understanding of what is driving your pain, what you can do about it, and how to begin returning to the activities that matter most to you.

Important: This assessment is designed to help identify factors that may be contributing to your pain and provide individualized recommendations for moving forward. While many people find this process extremely helpful, no healthcare provider can guarantee specific outcomes. The goal is to provide you with a clearer understanding of your situation, practical strategies for self-management, and a personalized plan for improving function and quality of life.
